Normandy Beach 9/21 & 9/22
« on: September 22, 2008, 05:47:55 PM »
Had a good couple days fishing, completely unplanned.  Got to try out my "new" gifted reel, which works great and must have a little bit of good luck!  Got a little yellow-eyed pirahna action in and tried hooking som stripers, but no luck.  My brother-in-law called Sunday and asked us to meet him to go on the beach for a little while.  His girlfriend's family has a beach house in Normandy Beach and the kids all wanted to go to the beach.  They ended up asking us to stay overnight.  Kids got to play with their cousins and we got a little R&R and was only 2 minute walk to the beach.

Went on in Normanday Beach at Jacobsen Ave.  Sunday was absolutely beautiful out.  A great beach day.  Very little wind and out of the west.  About 70 degrees on the beach.  Surf was still rough and churned up with lots of debris and some weeds.  Very fishable though and the water seems to be deeper there with a really deep trough and some nice holes.  I fished outgoing tide for about an hour or so from 1500 hours.  I managed to get one bluefish, couple pounds, on bucktail teaser in front of a Hopkins.  He went into the cooler for my mother.  Lots of bait around but very far off the beach.

Got out today, same place, around 1230 until 1430.  Conditions were completely different.  Heavy NE wind, heavy, rough surf with lots of debris again and very churned up.  Fished incoming into high tide.  Got two more blues.  Few pounds each.  First one was on a black Gibbs Casting Swimmer(Bottle Plug) about 15 minutes into fishing.  Fish hit it hard right as the plug hit the water and took off straight out!  I thought for sure it was a bass...but it was a bluefish.  Second blue was caught about 15 minutes later on the same setup as yesterday, the bucktail teaser in front of a Hopkins.  Nothing else for the next 1 1/2.  C&R after a pic both of those fish.  Didn't see anyone else catch anything, no blitzes, very few bait that I could see today.  Couldn't see past the waves to where the bait were yesterday.

It was a two good outings.  So convenient to just walk up to the beach and fish!!  Teaser worked really well.  It was nice to land a couple fish as well.
