Hi Ross,
I live very close to the beach and I usually check it everyday. Today they are calling for pretty snotty seas and getting worse tonight. In the past few days the winds have been out of the NE and will be like this till the weekend.
The seas are bad and I would not like to be our there. In fact the beaches are taking a beating and will till the wind changes direction.
A condition called a Fetch will come into play here. A fetch is when the wind is coming out of one direction with nothing to stop it over a long distance for a long period of time time. This fetch will continue till the weekend and cause a lot of problems.
As far as looking for a better site I do not think there is only one site with the right weather all the time. I look at a number of sites and with courses I have taken put together my own twist to the out come. I think I come pretty close most of the time.
Believe it or not the NWS has sort of a course on line. It covers a lot and answer a lot of questions you might have.
http://www.srh.weather.gov/jetstream/Weather can be fun and if you can put together all the conditions that come into play and get it right, just think you have done something the NWS has been trying to get right since their inception.
Good Luck
Paul
