We will take a Bleeping but keep on ticking...
« on: September 25, 2008, 05:31:00 PM »
Hi All,

I was just down at Ortley at high tide a while ago, it is bad but not to bad this go round.  We have a number of tides to go through before it is all over.  With each HI tide the scarfing will get worse.  Right now if you look at the pictures the water is eroding the beach pretty bad.  If it keeps up the dunes will be effected but I hope not to the point of a major breech.

I saw a couple of old friends I worked with while on the job and they seem to think we will be OK but they are still overly optimistic at this point.

We'll see what happens over night and through the next couple high tides.

BTW the waves are 9' + right now even though they do not look it in the pictures.

In the last picture if you look closely (enlarge the picture) about a 1/2 inch down from the horizon you can see the line of demarcation where the sand line is.  In other words that is where the sand is mixed very heavily with the water.  Which is out about a 1/4 of a mile.

Great pics Paul, thanks.  Beach is really taking a pounding!  Water is up very, very high.  Hopefully is stops there.  Should make for interesting fishing later this weekend and into next week.

Wow.  What a difference from yesterday.  When I get home I'll have to post the pics from yesterday to show the difference.

I tell you what, that house is called the Golden Gull and has been there for a long time.  It was originally built on pilings and has stood the test of time.  It has been through numerous hurricanes many Nor'easter s and has come away with people shaking their heads.

I am sure it will make it through this one as well.

I will be over there in the AM and take more pictures to show everyone what the power water can do.  I am sure the surf club will take a good hit over night and during the early morning high tide.

Good Luck

Paul

Nice shots Paul.  ;)

I took a ride over to the boardwalk with my wife and daughter earlier this evening to check out the surf conditions.

It was definitely rockin' and a rollin' out there tonight! t^
