Hi All,

Well I had the pleasure of fishing with Capt. Anthony this morning over at Ortley Beach.  Unfortunately we did not even get a bump.  I think the problem is that there was too much talking and not enough fishing.  But I think I was at fault there.  Thank you for sharing such a great sunrise this morning.

After Capt Ant. left I decided to go and do a little scouting and found that the bass took up residency in Seaside Park.  And like most of the time thry wewre right in the suds not more than 25' out.

Just like in Ortley there has been a slough carved out just off the beach where the sand has built up a flat about 35' out so between that flat of sand and the edge of the beach the water is approx 5'deep at high tide, plenty of room for bait and preditory fish to hang out.

The lure of choice for those that were catching was the Shad and the Bucktails with a curly tail.  Just to let everyone know there were 6 stripers caught (by one person) that ranged from 29" to 39" in Grumpys log.  Nice morning I wish theuy made fish finders for the suds.  :P

I will be going back over in a little while to try again only this time rigged a lot differently than this morning.  The Low tide today was at 2:08 so it will be an incoming tide hopefully the bite will be on this time in my neck of the woods.

Great report Paul!  I hit the beach 1 day too early.  I heard metals were working real well today too...seems like SSP and IBSP are loaded with sand eels.  AVA's and T Hex's were doing this trick as well as swimming plugs!  I will try and get out in a bit, but it is unlikely!

Good luck out there this evening!  BTW, they do make FF for the suds.  I don't know how well they would work, but they have those portable transducers you would cast out on a pole.  The transducer is like a bobber and it sends 100+ feet away back to either a watch, handheld screen or tiny screen that is rod mountable.  Made by Humminbird and called the Smartcast!

i have been reading reports all day long of fish being taken from the pocket north.  hoping i can get out of work and hit the beach for some action tonight.  with the way the cloud cover is incomming tide should be the right time, if all reports are acurate.  will let you know how i did if i manage to make it out.

After hearing yesterday's and today's reports I hit Seaside Park around noon today with clams, metals and shads.  Nothing.  Didn't see anyone else doing anything either.
Stopped at Ortley and scouted right at low tide.  Birds moving around a lot, but anglers getting nothing. 
Gonna try again tomorrow, only earlier this time...I hope.

 Your not the only one at fault Paul... I did my fare share of gum bumpin aswell.. Needless to say, it was great fishing with you this morning and once that sun peaked up over the clouds, it was gorgous!
 Sooner before later, I will change over to braid. That one single cast I took felt awesome the way the braid felt. You sold me on that!

well, i managed to head over to the hook after work.  i got myself the overnight pass so i dont have to worry about my parking situation there.  then off to the beach.
started off by the gaurd shack and never left.  walked on and there was only one guy there dunking some clam.  didnt see him with any production.  didnt wanna crowd him, but i saw he was fishing a nice rip through the first bar.  the beach was a lot different than the last time i was there.  a lot of holes now up high in the wash due to the pounding that the beach took over the weekend.  was able to work my way through the wash holes onto the close bar, which i am glad i did. 
started throwing a needlefish, thinking the sandeels were around....nothing.  switched to a diamond jig to work the bottom, nothing.  switched over to a chicken scratch bomber and fished it slow.  not a damn thing.....then i started to rib it through the water.  bang.  hooked up with a nice 22" striper.  worked that for a while longer till it started to get a lil darker.  switched to a blurple bomber and another rip in the bar and hit two more 25" and 27".  then it got to dark to see and called it quits at 715.  so 3 fish in 2 and a half hours.  not too bad....

Yeah, it seems like it is a jellyfish magnet.  I wonder if the new PP will be any different.  I had to put new line on my go to reel and was told that the coating is different.  It seems to be more slick.

Hey Catp Ant., would I do a thing like that?

I went out for a while tonight at Ortley again (man am I in a rut?)at low tide nothing but did hear that they were catching up in Lavellette.  Had to find out even though I had no time to set up and fish so I drove up to where the posse was and guess what?  After being on the beach no more than 3 minutes one of the guys using clams pulls in a nice what looked like a 30+" bass.

Guess where I am going tomorrow morning if the weather holds.

A stop over at the B&T for some clams and to the beach I will go. 

Oh yeah, where in Lavellette?  Between Philadelphia Ave and Washington Ave.
