shimano 350 Bait Runner

I have 2 nice ugly Sticks that had my 350's on them.  I moved them to other poles.  I liked the set up  and want to add them back to my gear.. but not with the 350's..  Don't want to spend that much at this time.

What reels here are compatible in size to the 350'S

IMO, I would stay away from the Penn Captivas.  I have a Captiva CV2000 for freshwater and it SUCKS!!  It was the worst thing I ever bought.  Very disappointed in the quality of the Penn Reel.  There is a LOT of plastic on the reel and the overall quality is just not there.  The bail always sticks, so it is more like a manual bail and all the writing has already worn off the spool.  It is less than 6 months old and has only been used 10 times max.  It has been maintained 110% and when it is not being used it is in a protective reel bag.

I am sure for around the same price, there are better quality reels than the Captivas.

just picked up a penn slammer, i know its about double your price of the captiva, but i am more than happy with it.  i dunno how often you plan on using those two rods your talking about, but i matched a 9' tsunami airwave with a 560 slammer and 250 yds of 40PP.  i can cast small plugs like 5 3/4" bombers a mile.

My recommendations, just from doing research and from reading comments on the actual product and brand, would be the Tica Sportera GR Series Bait Runners.  Looks like they run right around the price of the Penn Captivas and I think the quality is a little better.  The 5007 or 6007 series would probably suit you.  I have heard a lot of good about these reels for the price.

My other recommendations would be Daiwa Emcast reels, although they are not actual bait runners.  I have a Daiwa reel that I used in the surf and is 15 years old.  Although it doesn't cast as smoothly, it is still a solid workhorse.  It was a middle to cheaper end model as well.  Not one bit of rust inside the reel, no pitting, except on the bail.  It was not well kept or careed for either over those 15 years of not fishing!  You could also look for used Penns that were higher end, but may be a bit cheaper now.  Especially, if they say Made in the US, the high quality should be there.  I'm sure the lower end Shimano's are decent also, but that is just a guess.  I am not familiar with Shimano at all, except for the Stradic I am using now and really like!

If you're looking to go a little cheaper than that, you can pick up an Okuma Avenger at "you know where" for around $50.

Good inexpensive reel I have 5 of the AV 65's and it is a work horse not quite as smooth as the 560 Slammer but it is a good reel. I use for the family rods.
