Fishing Barnegat Inlet

 ???Hi all, What is the bets way to fish the BI inlet channel? I do not want to cause any safety problems for any one. Do you drift or anchor? I realize it may not be good when there is a lot of boat traffic, but I a novice at this and want to do it correctly. Thanks!!

Hi Bill..  From what I've seen.. it's all drifting.. Not sure I'd ever want to anchor up in that stuff.  I see a lot of people drifting the shallow rocks.. between the end of the jetty and the tower buoy.. Fish or not.. eek!!  a little to close for comfort for me.  At high tide you can motor over the rocks..  at low tide you will sink your boat..

Rod, That is  what I thought, a little to close for me too, even though my boat only drafts about 6 inches. Thanks

I'd love to do it.. But lets use your boat.. and if we sink.. I'll take you fishing on mine t^

Honestly.. You can fish it. and I may.. but I will not be leaving the helm t^

I've only fished it drifting as it can get pretty swift before the ends of the tide changes; not to mention the boat traffic which should be lighter as the fall days move towards Nov; but you can also fish the channels leading into the inlet from BB.....always a possible striper or weakfish at this time of year.

Article in this weeks Fisherman on Sheepshead near the rocks on the inlet!

Many times the fishing is better behind the inlet than in the inlet itself. ;)

Absolutely do not anchor in Barnegat Inlet. Major disaster in the making if you do.

Also, if you are talking about any channel, it is illegal to anchor in a channel.

Guys will drift Barnegat near the lighthouse. Supposedly a nice hole there, but I wouldn't know for sure.  t^

Oh yeah, bring live spot, set out and hold on.  ;D

 TT^Thanks all for the info. sorry i didnot respond sooner. This thing called work keeps getting in the way ;D Rod we could use my boat but if we sink it we'll both have to answer to my fishing partner---my wife!! TT^

a buddy of mine fishes the light with finnese at night he said on some nights its non stop with bass or weakies

Just listening to the chatter again yesterday the bait of choice was spot.  It seemed like it was 1 spot = one fish.
