Upper New York Bay 10-12-08
« on: October 12, 2008, 11:44:27 AM »
I didn't feel like spending $6.50 on sandworms so I went snapper fishing or should I say striper fishing. Started at around 10:30 at the kayak launch. Caught a striper after about 10 minutes and then another on the next cast, then for a few minutes nothing, and then and hooked up with a big one. This was the biggest I ever hooked there, unfortunalty after about 5 seconds he spit the hook, could of been a 15-18" easily. After a few more minutes I caught another striper, this one had a pretty bad injury to it's gill, the gill plate looked to be cut off. Nothing for the next 20 minutes and called it a day around 11:20. Total for the day 3 stripers.

I went over to True World Marine a little before 8 AM and the guy who walked in just ahead of me bought the last dozen sandworms they had, so even if you did feel like spending the $6.50 there wasn't any to be bought.

What did you get the stripers on? I caught before you got there on a gold Little Cleo spoon. I found that the stripers show a slight preference for that but have taken them on small silver Kastmaster type metals.

I got them on a cheaper version of a kastmaster. You can see it in the pix, its right by the fishes mouth. A kastmaster in 1/8 oz is $2.69, what I use is $1.09.
