Hi All,
As the season gets underway in earnest, take a few moments to inspect your boat fuses. Sure, things may work. However, over time, the fuses and fuse holder may pick up a light corrosion (it may look fine and even "ohm out properly" but it may not seat into the fuse holder properly). The salt environment really can do damage to electrical components. I also suggest putting dielectric grease over the metal parts of the fuses, fuse holders and on any connectors, including the battery terminals.
So, if you are experiencing intermittent problems (i.e. a light does not come right on or you have to "shake" the wires or toggle switch to make it work), check your fuses because that may be your source of the problem. Better yet - just change them! The few dollars in cost to change them may save you an expensive tow or a wasted run to the fishing grounds.
Good luck,
Capt. Ed
