Round 2-gotta be better!
« on: October 23, 2008, 09:22:04 AM »
Hello Group-

some of you may remember my posts a few months ago-just bought a boat, maiden voyage, wife had a baby girl etc.

Well now it's time to do some fishing! I was hoping to get a little direction and advice from some of you veterans on here.  When I launched the boat out of Atlantic Highlands, that's when the plan fell apart...I've never fished this area before and didn't have a clue as to where to target for fishing.  Now I'm not asking anybody to hand over their hard earned secret spots, but we'd like to know were not "pissin in the wind" and just burning fuel.

We'd like to get into some striper action-so any help would be greatly appreciated!
(I do have a gps/fishfinder and charts) just not well versed in using either!!

Thanks again,

Dave

round the hook, across from the nude beach  you will be on top of the clam bed.  You can tell by the sticky bottom on your finder.  Chum and Clam there.

Or

troll the cost line down to the rocks.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Drift the Rips with eels or sandworms, anchor up and clam Romer Shoal or the Clam beds from the tip of the hook south to about the toll booths on the hook.

Troll between the channels or along the Reach, or shoot over to Rockaway and set up clamming there

The big advantage from your boat is you can go to where YOU THINK the fish will be. Based on tide, wind, current and species.Yesterdays fish are not here today, but might be there on the morning tide the following day.The Reach,The Knoll,Romer, False Hook, SHC,Keyport,Triangle,Amrose,Ammo Pier, and Sandy Hook Chnl. are all spots in YOUR area that can be explored via trolled or baited and keep you busy for many generations.Good Luck with the your new baby.

Thanks for the tips Capt Bob,Luna and PeggyLee!!  Also I appreciate the warm wishes on our first baby!!

Is is safe to say that the stripers are back down our way yet or should I give it a few weeks yet?   Is it similar to the spring run where its best to find the bunker pods?  How about the early bite-does that come in to play as much or not because the water temp is cooler?

Thanks again,

Dave

hey, when you guys talk about fishing the rips, do you mean by the coast line where there are waves or is this a specific spot?
