Bob G and I took a ride to the boat to start clearing out some gear in the cabin for the season.
We took a peek at the ocean before we got to the boat, hoping it would be fishable. After looking at the ocean we determined that it was fishable and decided to go out for an hour or so.
We arrived at the boat and loaded up our equipment. Tossed the lines off and headed out.
Exited Shark River inlet to be met by a swarm of gulls working some bait only a hundred or so yards north of the inlet.
We headed over to the bird action and tossed out some Ava47s. Immediate hook ups by both of us. We continued to toss the Avas and bring in fish. Kept five, all blues, before the school departed along with our fun. The action lasted for about twenty minutes. The birds left the area and the blues never surfaced again.
Went on a troll to the south now. Got to the southern edge of Belmar and the sky looked like it would open up any time so we decided to head back in. What happened to the sunny afternoon forcast.
Got back to the marina to encounter a blow out tide. Couldn't get to my slip so we headed over to the fuel dock. Figured I'd fuel up while we waited for the tide to roll back in.
Took some pics of the Shark River basin as we headed for the fuel dock.
This area is typically under water all the time.
This is the north part of the SR basin channel. Typically only a very small section is out of the water at low tide.
Fixed channel marker. So much for performing it's job of marking the channel.
Got our fuel and while waiting at the fuel dock for the tide to turn we washed down the boat and equipment. Then headed back to dock the boat.
Here is our catch.
And this is our catch's catch.
Cut up this blue fish and all of these peanuts poured out of his stomach.
Not a bad day of fishing for about an hour's worth of time.
Hope to be out again tomorrow.
