Reel Time Sportfishing and Ice breaking 12/06
« on: December 06, 2008, 06:15:55 PM »
Today Captains Mike and Joe and I set out for the LE reef. We met up around 7am to find we were iced in! The marina is in brackish water so it don't take much but it didn't look to bad so we loaded up and headed down the creek. After about 45 minutes of crawling our way down the creek we decided to call it off as the ice seemed to be getting worse. Captain Mike jigged the anchor and I used the boat hook to break up the ice in our path and Capt. Joe was on the throttles. Just as we were starting to attempt a 180 another boater came around the bend and with no regards for his hull he blazed a path and we made it to the bay and left the ice behind us.

Conditions were dead calm making anchoring tough but we used 2 anchors and managed to stay on or close to the structure all day. We had to work hard for our catch today but it was worth it. TT^

It was cold first thing in the morning. Had a quarter to a half inch of ice surrounding the boat.

Capt Mike pulled out of the slip and had to use the motors to make the turn in the fareway. Steering wheel only kept us going straight.

Capt Mike and Hareball jumped on the bow to assist the boat in the ice breaking choir.

And moved enough ice for us to continue our journey to open water.

Here is the trail we left.

After we got to open water Capt Mike took over the helm and made a bee line to the reef.

Anchoring was a choir as there was very little wind. Not even enough to pull us back on the anchors today. The current going against the wind made for an even more difficult time to keep on station.

All in all though, it was a good day.

We managed to box eight nice fish and we returned over a dozen short tog.

Capt Mike and Hareball, it is always a good trip with you guys. Thanks for the great day.

Hard to believe we will be into gale force winds tomorrow.  :P

Great trip...you guys are die hards pushing through the ice like that!  Pretty crazy how everything is icing over now and a 1/2 inch of snow on the ground tonight.  Nice catch!
