Tried the togs again mon,tues before and during slack.Old spot mon(good)mouth of canal manasquan tues(no good)Things have slowed down quite a bit :PBack to steak and ales this week

Tried the togs again yesterday before,during and after slack.Bite was best during slack but it moved through very fast.None in my bucket this time though the guys across from me looked to have better luck by the 88 bridge.Will try again today or tomorrow

Tried the togs again after a short layoff in canal.Slack was good(2:00) for about an hour.Had a nice handful to 14" none in bucket again.Caught them though.They are still there.Time for a head boat.

Fishdoctor.... Im not sure what your fishing for in the canal.... But for me... I have caught bass in the canal from March - December

The canal is a great place to fish and offers a very large range of fishing all year round... I have even come across bluefish around the first week of April...

Like Kayak1 said, you can usually get fish in there in the very early spring and continue through December 31st...at which point the striper season closes and not too much life in there.

Blackfishing seems to pick up in the later summer there.  Seems to pretty much end in the winter through the spring and by August you can usually start getting shorts in there.  By the end of August until Togging season opens, it is usually decent fishing in there.  I'm sure there are still tog in there and some probably stay year 'round, you just don't get many people fishing for them in the Canal and the catch rate is not as high as in the Fall.

The canal is a funny place to fish... some days are much better then others.... Keep fishing it and the rewards can be big
