Im gonna try and get out there tuesday or wednesday. Last hoorah for trout this week so taking a co worker out with me tomorrow for that. Then on to the Canal!

I think it's been said that it runs about one and a half hours behind the inlet tide

Check out the first post in this thread.  There's a real detailed explanation of the canal.
It's about 3 - 3.5hrs off from the inlet.  So if you start 1-2 hrs after the Inlet tide, you'll catch the end of that tide, slack and into the new tide in the canal.

I'm gonna try to head out there today if i can finish the chores I have to do.

 It really depends on what you're doing. The running tides are what you want when fishing shads deep. Let the lures sink and sweep across the deeper water and twitch. Poppers are working too. Lots of small fish this year. Just go fishing

Hit the canal yesterday morning.....nothing.
Then hit the inlet for a while....nothing.  Did see a few short fluke caught.  Weather was nasty.

Tried today w/herring and the yellow eyes were here    lost a few baits then decided to leave.

well, not much of a report to give but its a report I guess. Water was clean and clear and current not to bad, incoming tide, moderate boat traffic, caught nothing! Only stayed for about an hour and a half, wife wasn't feeling well,(6 mos. preg.) It was still a great day out and we were the only two there, on the river side anyway.

When do the blackfish start to bite well?

The Blackfish will show up into the Canal end of August.  Bite usually gets really going in September middle to the end of the month.  However, a lot of those fish will all be juveniles and too short to keep.  You might get a few keepers in there every now and then.

Capt Jerry P, is the Togmaster...and he does very well when he fishes the Canal.  I watched him land fish after fish after fish for over an hour!  I was so impressed that I stopped fishing on the opposite side!
