Back by popular demand it's the 3rd annual NJSWF.com Blackfish trip...December the 4th t^ t^
If you were on the trip last year you had a great time with a ton of laughs not to mention the beautiful rod we auctioned off on behalf of the RFA that was custom built by Phil ( Wreckfish )....If you missed out nows your chance!!

WISH i could def say i am in as this is ALWAYS a great bunch of characters ;D to fish with...but i go back on the table on Oct 5th and cant say if i will be ready by then....that being said if guys are on the fence about this trip jump on it quick and have a great time... hopefully will see some of ya's in Del after the holidays

I'm not sure if I can make it yet as December is a tough month for me. However, I am far from a blackfishing expert. There will be a lot better tog fisherman than me on that trip that you might want to sidle up next to, including Capt. Joe (Irish Ayes), Phil (Wreckfish), Kenny, Paul and Mark (Treebeard), just to name a few! ;)

I can see this is gonna be a hell of a trip. I've been tog fishing one time. It was last year in sr across from the irish eyes they might have thought I was a pro, it was just begginers luck but they did clap it up a little when I pulled a 9# over the rail

Asian Crabs, are you talking about those little things? The party boats supply "Greenies" aka European Green Crabs on Tog trips, some also have "Whiteleggers" (Rock Crabs) available to indivual anglers for additional cost, which is usally not cheap. Not sure if the Bandit IV is including whiteleggers in our package, if not, we are going to need at least 2 bushels for 35 guys. Can you catch us 2 bushels of Whiteleggers? Oh yea, Whiteleggers will not stay alive in the fridge, so you will need a very large bait tank, or a holding cage. <'((((><

Perhaps we can start an early pool to guess what the temps will be at the moment we leave the dock. chrz We can use those stupid Coors cans that tell you how cold your beer is to figure out the temperature. LOL I will pick 39 degrees.

Ok guys the tris getting closer. Being realatively new to the tog, what do I need I'm gonna bring my 7' mh fish poison rod and my avet 5.3 with 50lb test is that a good enough outfit. What in means of terminal tackle do I need; hooks, sinkers, leaders,swivels etc. I want to start gathering this early.

I want to thank Dick's Sporting Goods for their generous donations for this trip. I have told my family I want a gift certificate from them this Christmas instead of SA which I have gotten for years.
Jerry's tips on blackfishing is an excellent read. He just left out the part about having a cigarette in your mouth at all times when blackfishing. cfzd rofla
Being this a CHARTER, I am bringing a couple of fishing poles, but will use the rigs supplied by the boat and take all the tips I can from the mates. As we all know, each day of fishing is different, and what worked last trip might not work today. This is their job and you always learn something new each time you fish.
The 11/1 opening of sea bass season can not get here fast enough for me. My plans are to fish on Fri. 11/4 and then again on Sun. 11/6 for them. I am going to try to do a open boat charter and then a PB on the other day. If anyone cares to join me on either trip, please send a PM.

When your name gets on the list then that's the time to send the check...
If your still on the alternate list come "game day" that means you didn't make the trip....
If there is a last minute change then yes the guy picked off the alternate list would pay at the dock prior to boarding...
But I would expect guys to send Joe a check and not wait till the day of the trip.
Perhaps we should have a deadline for the money to be in and lock in the spots....what do you think Rod/Joe?

Being a tog newbie, I've done some research tied some rigs. Weights I'm thinking 6-8 oz bank sinkers will work? Any input would be great.

Have larger weights with you also. Czpt Jerry, one of the best at togging, says that if you feel you need 8 oz, use 10. You do want you rig to lay still on the bottom. It is also recommended to use flat sinkers for the same reason. The flat sinker will lay on the bottom and not roll like a bank sinker will. However, if all you have are bank sinkers, they will work.
Can't wait for this trip, always a fun time with this group of guys. t^

Early in the season, are whiteleggers needed? Don't know that they will be any better than just plain ol' greenies. But if someone wants to pick them up we can see how many want to use them and pitch in for the cost.

So i have no jobs going on till later so i figured id make fun of myself here{so you all no i can take it as well as give it} To lighten up the mood i will explain how i think the trip will go for me{in redneck fasion}
First i'll break out my new ride{1st pix} then run down the dock{2nd pix} to the boat, then fish,drink and have a blast{pix 3} then off to the bank with the pool{pix 4} then buy my new houseboat{pix 5}.
Any way hope you like it.Crazzy what you can do when all you got is time...
I'd like to personally Thank The crew from NJSWF for setting this trip up and for all the donations that will be giving away.I look forward to meeting some more NJSWF members as the ones ive met already are t^ in my book.

I have a shimao compre muskie rod med-heavy 7' with a okuma solettera with 65lb braid and a top shot of 30lb mono. or my trevella x-heavy only 5'6 with a tyrnos 12 with 50 lb braid? was thinking of switching the tyrnos to the 7'0 rod. any help would be great. 5hrug

FWIW, I like the first combo. I would just beef up the top shot to 50 or 60 lb test.

I'm no sharpie at this by any means, nor am i real familiar with that particular rod. I'm not sure how great that shorter trevalla will be for toggin.. but I have an option for ya.. I have a 7'6 St. Croix E-glass rod rated 15-60# and can handle up to 12-14oz... it makes a sweet tog rod if you'd like to use it.. you can keep your 7fter set up to use as a lighter rig, and bring your tyrnos 12 to strap to the St. Croix as a backup... let me know, it easy enough to tote it for ya.. Also, if anyone runs short of rigs I scored a windfall of some real nice snells, and snafus at a Tog fishing/ rodbuilding workshop in Staten island last winter.. tied on good hard material by the mate of the Ocean Eagle..plus he gave me a bunch of straight leader.. so anyone in need feel free to hit me up on board t^ chrz

Need advise. Getting gear together which pole and reel to bring. I have a shimao compre muskie rod med-heavy 7' with a okuma solettera with 65lb braid and a top shot of 30lb mono. or my trevella x-heavy only 5'6 with a tyrnos 12 with 50 lb braid? was thinking of switching the tyrnos to the 7'0 rod. any help would be great. 5hrug
FWIW, I like the first combo. I would just beef up the top shot to 50 or 60 lb test.

Thanks for the compliment, but I'm just regurgitating what I learned about using heavy leader from Capt Jerry.
I just try to listen to the masters and practice what they teach. ;D
use 40-80 lb main line and 60-100lb leader. blackfish are not line shy. so have the extra bit to land the big fish. too many times i seen people catch plenty of tog and always lose the hog on there 30 lb test. your 30 lb test becomes a lot weaker once it frays or get a nickin it.

As you know we are sailing on the Bandit out of Belmar and plan to sail at 6:30am…Let’s try to get down there early so that we have time to load up 35 guys and their gear and get out of dodge on time. Should anyone need directions or info about the boat, here’s their website http://www.fishbanditiv.com/ Also please remember that your $60 dollar fare does not include the mates tip, these guys work hard so let’s make sure we take care of them TT^
Bait provided by the Bandit will be green crabs only, so if you want to bring any special bait feel free to do so. Also as was asked many times…Braid is ok to use.
Should anyone experience a problem on the way to the boat, running late, got a flat tire, got lost… please give me a call and let us know you’re on your way…my cell is ( 973 ) 727-4699. Have a good excuse because you will be judged by 34 guys on its originality…
As to the pool, judging by the consensus of many posts it has been decided that it will be a $10.00 pool to be won only by the target species ( Blackfish ) It would be great if everyone enters the pool to make it interesting, I would hate to see a 12 pounder not take the money home because someone didn’t pony up the $10 bucks. There will also be a $50 dollar gift certificate provided by Dick’s Sporting Goods for the second largest Blackfish.
Also, Rod wanted me to remind everyone that he is going to be shooting some video on the trip so if you happen to see him wandering around with the camera going….please, watch the language and save Rod some time in the editing room ;)
With regard to the rod raffle, free to all and everyone gets a chance to win this beauty…

7 ft Blackfish Rod -Build on a Calstar Grafighter GF700L blank.
This is composite graphite which is idea for use with braided line.
Fuji braid ready guide wrap in a spiral wrap (Acid wrap)
Eva Foam Grips,Fuji Graphite reel seat that will fit the Newell reels.
Black with gold trim and some metallic red trim that should match the reel nicely.

In case any of you didnt hear yet.Michy and i will not be able to go tomorrow Her drs.orders. They are thinking congestive heart failure and found alot of protein in her urine, which is not a good thing at all. I am truely sorry we have to miss this trip we really wanted to go but her health is WAY more important then any fishing trip
I am asking all you guys to please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that we can pull thro this one. EverEnough also did her last run of the year yesterday report will follow later. Id like to personally thank every one for your kind words. GOOD LUCK tomorrow..

As to alternate bait for tomorrow's trip, the tackle shop in the marina has white leggers at $8.95 a dozen and says he has an ample supply as of this morning. They do not have Asians. He also said they are open at 5AM not 6AM as the web site states. If anyone brings some Asians, I will gladly chip in to help cover the cost. The store down the street on RT. 35 in Neptune just has greenies which is no help.
Looking forward to meeting and fishing with everyone tomorrow. Weather looks like it will be great with temps in the 50's, unless they screwed up the marine forecast again. rgmn

Thank you all for the wonderful get well wishes for me....was hoping to be able to make the trip and outfish all you wonderful people hhppy....unfortunately the cardiologist said NO trips anywhere especially offshore :'( :'( ..I wanted to smk the dr when he told me that yesterday....will know what my BNP (blood results for congestive heart failure) is Monday and also have a stress test that evening...so on that note have a super great time, catch some great fish, and mostly-- be safe...will be looking forward to reading your reports and seeing the MANY pictures clp clp slt thanks for the love
