Waders

Hey guys im investing in my first pair of waders. WHat do i need to know about them. I have been searching around and noticed mm. what does that mean??? How do the sizes work i saw some by shoe and some by large and XL. What are some good brands to look for. Thx alot

Hi Yankee,

I just bought a new pair od waders this fall.  There are a lot of different types and styles out there.  It depends what you are looking for.

The price rang is all over the ball park.  I paid $80.00 for Stearns.  I knew they had to be roomey and easy to put on.  I went for an over size boot you might want to do the same.  The pair I have also has thinsulite in the boot and are warm so far.  Because of the larger boot everything else is bigger as well and which makes for a very comfortable wear with geans on.

I bought them at Betty & Nicks in Seaside Park.  John Jr. was very helpful.

Paul not sure what your opinion is on this but I know when I bought a pair, it was recommended that if your fishing the beach you want waders with the boot build in VS. the style that you buy a separate wading shoe. With the build in boot you don't get sand in the wading shoes which to me made a whole lot of sense.

Hi Skip,

I for one like the built in boot.  I have always had that type and well I kind of like the simplicity of the whole thing.  I can't be bothered with putting on separate items like boots or shoe over the wader foot.  Plus it makes sense about the sand issue.

I was watching two guys suiting up this morning (they were putting on the extra boot style) when I pulled up and when I walked out onto the beach they were still getting ready.  Because I slide the upper part of the wader down over the boot top fireman style, all I have to do is slide my feet into the boots and pull up the wader top snap on the suspenders and clip the belt and I am off.
