I must say Mike... you're post is very ignorant... looking to take out your frustration with the NY govt on a NY fisherman (fellow fisherman)...

you think I really want to shell out $150 for a lifetime license for a hobby/lifestyle I've been involved with for 20+ yrs...  cmon now...

direct your frustrations where its deserved... NY State...

If you are duly licensed in your home state (if you live in NJ that means if you have registered with the NOAA saltwater Angler Registry) and are fishing NJ/NY boundary waters (like Raritan Bay) then NY has reciprocity with NJ.

So the way I read it, you don't need the NY license. But you need to register with NOAA (which is free this year.)

Be advised I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV. Your actual mileage may vary.

You will need a NY license if you fish NY waters.

Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?  rofla

I believe you need a licenses if you drift over the line. The good news is if you have the licenses, you don’t have to register.

I think WB is referring to this part of the NY State Licensing FAQ's:
Quote
Are there any reciprocal license agreements with other states where marine waters form boundaries with other states?

Yes, in certain waters, if a state grants New York recreational marine fishing license holders fishing privileges in that state's portion of the boundary water(s), then New York grants appropriately licensed anglers from that state the privilege to fish in the New York portion of the boundary water(s) without securing a New York recreational marine fishing license:

    * Connecticut: those parts of Long Island Sound lying between New York and Connecticut
    * New Jersey: those parts of New York Harbor, Hudson River, Kill Van Kull, Arthur Kill, Raritan Bay, and Atlantic Ocean lying between New Jersey and New York, and
    * Rhode Island: those parts of Long Island Sound, Block Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean lying between Rhode Island and New York.

yep PFG that's the one....
Bob/Rick I believe you are mistaken...

I have that "reciprocity" text from the NY FGW website laminated on a sheet I keep right next to my NOAA card, boating safety cert, TowBoat US card, and registration. That's enough fees for me.

I think I will take my chances with it this year, I'll let you know how I make out. There's a lot of good fishin right on or near the NY NJ boundary

Just a thought...New Jersey has yet to bring on a saltwater license. Therefore, there would be no reciprocity in salt water, only fresh water because Jersey does have a freshwater license.Just my take on this.  5hrug

That's not completely true.  Greenwood Lake has reciprocity and either a NJ or NY Freshwater License can be used anywhere on the Lake :P ;D.

Bob, I have read nothing about reciprocity between NY and NJ either.

Warren, can you post where you got the info on the reciprocity between NY and NJ?

OK, I was not thinking about shared lakes.  I was speaking about the entire state.  For example, my NJ license is not valid for me to fish on Lake George.

 Let the games begin !

why bother ? this crap takes the fun out of it all.

I'm starting to feel like -I'm the fish !  In a school of sharks

Did you ever notice? when a car is pulled over by the police everyone slows down and looks, kinda like when a lion is eating an antelope or a shark is eating a seal
All the seals/antelope are just standing there looking at their buddie being eaten.

Sick hugh! Wa.....y too much regulation

The Regulations are ridiculous.  It makes you feel like you are under a microscope all the time.  Gets you paranoid.

Capt Joe, Warren is referring to the FAQ's on the NY State Marine License website.

excerpt from the NYDEC website ( http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/54950.html )

Bob they specifically mention NY/NJ "boundary" waters and explicitly Raritan Bay
