A few questions.

What bait should we use? I've heard from so many different kinds of people about their choice of bait, that I'm lost myself. I've heard of everything from stingrays to jacks.

And what kind of tackle should we bring. Obviously a fluke rig wouldn't be smart to bring, but what size hooks, snaps, swivels, line etc should we bring?

Bait is bunker, mackrel, bluefish chucks.
Check your local shop for rigs.  They sell premade shark rigs.  Wire leader, big hooks and high strength hardware.

So is this like "who is bringing the coffee and donuts?" or "who is bringing the bunker and chum?"

So what time do we need to get to the park? don't they close at dusk? how does this work?

BYOB. Bring your own bait
As long as you are "actively fish*, which we will all be doing  ;) the park never closes.

Meeting time will probably be set at time gets closer.

Like Chris said as long as you are actively fishing your good to go.  What this means is that for every person in your vehicle you must have a pole and either bait or lures to have them assume you will be actively fishing.

Once you are on the beach the Park Police rarely check who is fishing or not.  Plus remember no Booz as that is a big no no.

Happy Catching

Paul

jason and i are going out tonight so i will let you know how we did. big hooks people 8/0 to 10/0 i prefer circles no worries on the hook set and its easier to get your hook back threw all them teeth. atleast 50lb braid and a 4500 series reel. fish finder rigs with the sliding sinker and either heavy mono leader like 125lb test or  i prefer 80lb wire. ccheck your rods for cracks or defects before you come out even a 65lb brownie will put your gear threw hell. and the bait is what is around... bunker or bluefish. its jersy i wish i could fish here with big rays for bait. i would be in heaven... its not as crazy as it sounds... its just fishing for big fish from the beach. i am liking the show of numbers so far sounds like this is gonna be a good one this year. and its in prime time this year.

What time do the gates close? Do you have to get there before dark? I am not sure of a few things.

I will bring my own bait and gear and I doubt anyone will come with me that late at night, maybe my gf's son. who knows.
