Using braided line on my Daiwa BG-60's
« on: March 10, 2012, 04:19:36 PM »
Hello,

I am going to move to braided 60# line this season.  Any reason not to ?  Also, how to back it up, and what to use.  This is for inshore fishing.
Thanks,
Joe

Sure you can use 60 inshore...i use 40 but its all personal preference.
U can back it with 20lb test using uni to uni or alberto(modified uni).

BG's are solid, they can definitely handle it.  60 might be a bit much if you are planning on doing alot of casting but I suppose the difference is farily minimal.  A wrap of electrical tape around the spool should prevent slippage almost as well as backing with less knots...

Make sure you check out Backing Braid With Mono
This will help you get the right amount on.  say 150 yards per spool.. t^  depending how you will be buying your spools..

I would go to the braid also.. I would back it with about 100 yards of mono and try to match the diameter when spicing together.. If I am fluke fishing, I wouldn't go heavier then 30lbs braid.. stripers 60lbs braid..
