Update on the Boat Motor
« on: November 16, 2012, 02:47:39 PM »
As you may recall right before the storm I ran into some motor trouble and hauled the boat home. Well, my buddy gave me a call the other day after starting to do some diagnosis....

Looks like I need new risers and manifolds. There was about 1-2qts of water in the block. Also one of the rods had snapped (presumably corroded d/t the water) so, she had been running on 5 cylinders. We need to check the head for cracks, but are pretty hopeful there are none.

Now to do the math and figure out if I go the repair route or a Jasper from Rick..... I guess I'll put replacement boat shopping on hold for another season or two so I can try and recoup some of the money being laid out for this repair.

Fred
I would talk to Rick---Long/Short block  5hrug

I know a lot of people looking for a new boat now--Truely a Shame but see what happens.
When looking for something close now might be good but need to know NOW--If you get what I mean

Fred,
We might be able to get the new risers and manifolds with the long block. Will need the specs.
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife sells all of my fishing tackle for what she thinks I paid for it!

Ok, Rick. I appreciate that offer as well!

I really need to do some soul searching. If I go the Jasper route I am at probably close to $3k for the repair. Using what I have now and replacing the head and risers/manifold I am probably at $1500+. I know I will not be keeping the boat too long. Now I need to determine if it's long enough to warrant a rebuild vs repair.....

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Yep.... I just need to value the repair/replacement vs potential use and later sale. I know you can never get your money back from the boat but, I want to be as close as possible. With the intent to get a bigger one in the coming seasons the best bang for my buck is probably just a repair at this point.
