Sooo what am I doing wrong.?? I keep getting error messages and red X's

I can only see the first one, it does look good. 

Did you pour the lead too?  I just received my mold for them jigs in the 5,6 & 8 ounce sizes.  I already had the 2,3 & 4 ounce mold.
I'll be a pouring fool shortly.   

yes we pour them.. where did you get the 5 6 and 8 oz mold??I have to figure out what im doing wrong with these pics??

I love tying flies!!  I've been tying for about a year and a half now and I'm addicted. Here's a pic of my tying desk and a couple of my favorite salt water patterns.

Sweet setup.  Mine is on a roll around cart and everything seems to be all over the place.  I use my studio as my fly tying area which is a tight room with all my art stuff, ham gear, drafting table and oh yeah, fly tying bench.

I need more room but there isn't any left.

I will have to take some pictures to show you my mess er, I mean my studio.

this year we decided to make our own bucktails and it is driving me nuts ,I wake up and get tying and it seems like it never ends ,I have about 60 or more made up now and owe some to friends .This sunday sam fluke dud and I are pouring a couple hundred more.

Nice box of lead heads you got there.  That must of took some time.  Good luck with them.

driving me nuts ,I dont have an air brush this year so I am hand painting them ,I cant wait to finish ,it is more work then fun at this point .When I have 100 for the season I can stop .

Have you tried dipping them or using the powder paint?  I heard that the powder once you get use to it you will never go back to the liquid paint again.

I've dipped mine and it seems to work OK, got to let it drip off a little but sure beats painting with a brush.  I also use an air brush but even with that method it is a pain to clean the unit after.  I am a stickler and have to take it all apart to clean it instead of just spraying thinner through the gun.

I tried powder the other day for the first time in years and I can say it is the way to go ,I will never brush on again ,I am waiting for some glow powders to arive in the mail tommorow so I can continue painting ,only thing is you have to cure them in the oven to harden them and they drip so if you dont put something under them your wife will not be happy.I always put a coat of krylon cryistal clear over the top and you can slam them on the ground and they dont chip

I kind of figured you tried it.  Check on the wife category.  She has put up with a lot over the years with my fishing antics.

I have to agree on the wife part ,mine found her oven glitter blue tonight and wasnt happy and I have the guys comming over on sunday for a flounder chum party.I see they have a devise that lifts the paint in the air now and it spins it ,I want to look into it ,I might be heading to a dealer show in s.c. soon and want to check it out.I have been tring to make epoxy heads but they keep coming out messed up so my goal is to learn them next,one great tip I learned yesterday was dont use a torch to heat your bucktail inside ,they drip and lead lands on the wife carpet

Not to mention the lead fumes it gives off when heated.  What is the working temp of the paint and how close is it to the melting point of the lead?

It has to be below that I am sure or it will distort the jig every time.

I know regular powder coat would be very close the melting point of lead but it has to be something similar.

it is close but what I learned is just heat it for a couple sec. then put them in the oven and let it cure ,if you look at the red ones above they are powder ,I tried all temps and found if you heat the lead to much it is sloppy ,5 seconds is plenty I do the desired amount then put them in the oven for 10 minutes at 350 and they are ready for the eyes ,then I spray 2 coats over them and tye ,I have more colors comming so I will post them results as I go ,I have to say I have been selling these localy to pay for my own supplies and people seem to be paying the same as a spro for them

Yeah, I just answered my own question as I read the procedure in the Barlow's catalog.

I heard that pre heating is the key to a smooth finish.  That is what they do in normal powder coating.  They preheat at 400 deg or so then spray and back in to cure.

I dip mine and they come out w/ a rough surface ,I then hang on the oven rack for 10 min. I never sprayed them I can do 10 heads in a couple minutes in one color ,fluke dud has some very nice multi patterns that I am gonna steal off him soon.he bought a custom football jig head that we are pouring this weekend in sizes 1-4 I am eager to see what it looks like in the water

Good luck with the pour.  I like the SPRO pattern and have had good luck with them. 

I am not sure what I will be using on March 1st this year.  Last year I used eels and did pretty good, I have a number of SPRO's I want to try with different tails.  Plus I might use a Storm shad.

Too many choices.  Not enough time...

I just ordered a mold from Shawn, A custom football jig, from 1 -4 oz.. My next 2 molds are going to be that bucktail mold to 8 oz and a ice fishing jig my buddy uses that is killer for perch and crappie..
