Custom rod builders??
« on: January 15, 2008, 07:54:26 PM »
Want to have something done for my son for his 6th B-day in March.  I have something in mind, I just need to talk to a builder.  A basic 6' 6" all around baitcaster stick with a certain theme I know he will love.
Any info you all can pass on is much appreciated.  If I can get this to happen the way I picture it, it should be pretty cool. Thanks

Hi Duffman,

Mike at Grumpys makes some excellent rods as does Kevin Bogan.  I would run it by both and I am sure that you will know just by the vibes you receive by talking to each man.

I know you want this to be special for your son as I did when I made my daughters rod.  Hers was nothing fancy but it was the thought process and the love one puts into it that counts and makes it special.

Good luck in your quest.

Happy Catching

There are custom rods and then truly custom, one of a kind, made specificaly for the individual rods ;)

Rods look fantastic, but that's just the icing on the cake.  Rod is built for you to specific individual characteristics and requirements.

Ain't a "just pick your colors and we'll wrap you a custom rod" rod >:D

I am not sure Duffman is looking to spend $400 on a rod for his 6 year old :)

You get what you pay for grtn

Even if you calculated minimum wage for the hours he spends on just some of the wraps, you're still getting a deal.

He's made some sweet rods for a few kids, including his own.  He had a Bart Simson one that was just incredible.

Depends on blank, components, wraps, etc.  Gotta ask the builder for exact prices.

Can get cheaper "customs" built at other places, but you're limited in what you can actually get.
