Better off just getting new line.

Well, I look at it from a different perspective.

I do get it wholesale.

But, I fish hard 5-7 nights a week.

My reels and line take a tremendous amount of abuse.

I feel comfortable changing once a year.

Lot's of rocky areas where I fish.

But either way, I wouldn'r spool an entire reel with braid.

I'd put 1/4 mono first.

Not really, the line at the bottom of the spool is much more susceptible to rotting out from the salt water.

I've reversed the braid on my reels a few times and never came across any rotten line.  I'm not saying it can't happen, but I don't think Spectra (being almost a type of plastic) will ever actually rot.  Am I wrong on this?

It is polyethelene, pure plastic....not subject to molecular deterioration.  Color change is the dye coming off.......not the degredation of the material.

What does it have to do with being cheap?  Reversing PP(and it's assumed mono backing) onto another real, just to get to fresh stuff is econimically sound.  Why waste perfectly good power pro?  Mono is another story but PP you don't lose anything.  Color and strength are there.

I don't think there any difference with say stripping 20 yards off mid season just to get to the fresh stuff.

For the record though, I normally do switch some reels year to year because I like trying new stuff.  Suffix last year to hopefully Fireline this year.  It's not that I don't like Suffix, I heard good things about Fireline and want to try it.

Absolutely no reason to put on new braid every single year on every reel you own.

If you want to pretend you are a pro fisherman and claim to "fish so hard my braid goes bad ever year" fine, but don't tell me it is too expensive to fill a reel with braid for everyone else who knows you don't have to put on new braid every year.

That doesn't make me a "PRO"

Never said anything about being a "PRO".

All it makes me is dedicated to my sport.

Trust me, I am far from a "PRO"

But, using line for 3 seasons when you "SURF" fish as much as I do is utterly ridiculous.

I have 6 spinning reels filled with braid. Line slippage isn't an issue for me. I have at least 12 conventional reels filled with braid as well.

Not too expensive when I don't need to replace the line for years at a clip.

Maybe you get a little more wear and tear n the surf. buT FISHING FROM A BOAT, YOU ABSOLUTELY Do not have to change your line every year.
