Not really. A new powerhead is $$4,000 +.

Cylinder head A LOT cheaper.

rug  the i/o was the same,,, impeller in lower unit

mboy the $4000 price u said is that dealer or marina price with labor????cause its the labor that kills you,,,thats why i went online and found a super cheap head and  did the install myself,,,, the fact i was a car mechanic for 3 years and the i/o is basically a car engine helped a lot,,,

either way it dont matter, u dont change it you get effed,,,so change it when u can

1992 100 hp Evinrude I have to replace the Tstats every year. 25.00 easier to replace than engine. Pain to get to though.
I replaced my own water pump. I had little or no experience with outboards. Easier than the Tstats on this motor. If my memory doesnt fail me you have to watch how the impeller goes in. Correct me if I am wrong. Vanes of impeller have to go back in depending on direction of rotation.

Go look at what powerheads cost (just for the new powerhead, not labor) for an outboard motor (2 stroke).

Add another 1-2k for my quote.

Cylinder head and powerhead are no where near the same thing.

Powerhead is just about your entire internal engine.
