Lavallette
« on: June 03, 2008, 08:12:33 PM »
Im going to be going down to Lavallette for a week in early july. I was wondering what are some good places to fish in that area? I will probably try the montoloking bridge again this year with hopefully some better luck. What are some good partyboats out of that area or pt.pleasant? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!  t^

As far as party boats go, what did you want to fish for?

Lavallette is not far from Ped's stomping grounds, I'm sure he can fill you in about the surf there.  t^

Boats- gambler is a great one, hull lights/ the whole 9 yards. Fisherman's supply, right next door, is a good place for lures and frozen bait.  Also, any of the Bogan's basin boats are good (across the bridge in brielle.)  Great bait shop, brielle b&t (my fav) by those boats too.

There is no wrong place to fish along that stretch of beach.  There are plenty of groins that you can fish along.  By the time you get down there thge blues along with croakers should be in full swing during the day and if it is stripers you be after remember they like low light and darkness.  Use dark color top water plugs and hold on.

The same for the bridge pier.  Night time seems the best time in hotter weather for there.  Cast out to the bridge pilings and short jerks of a top water lure will probably bring you something.

If you get down towards Ortley Beach try along the third avenue parking lot as there is a pretty good hole just off the stairs, uinless we have a good storm and things change.

You have to do some foot work once you get to the beaches.  Do an early morning or evening walk at low tide to see where the cuts and rips are and remember them even if you have to wright them down.  Pick up some bait if that is what you are into either bunker or clams and have fun.  Clams for stripers and bunker for the blues.

There are a lot of different lures to choose from my suggestion is to get yourself to any of the B&T's and start to ask questions and recommendations on what to use.  There are so many comobs that I could write a book on this alone.

That is the fun of this sport, trying new things.  Don't be afraid of new ideas that is what it is all about.  But if I could only give you one bit of advise that would be to get one type of bait, plug, lure, jig and work with it till you master it and then move onto a different lure and pretty soon you will be teaching us some new things.

Happy Catching

This area is my fishing grounds as well, drop me a line when you get out there.I would be happy to meet up and get you in on some fish,or give you some info on what and where I am hooking up and on what type of lures/bait. I spend alot of time out there. Every year the first week in july is my time on the beach out there,so you are going at a good time. Good luck.

Any time...My haunts are from the Manasquan Inlet to Barnagat Inlet for over 50 years, not that that make any difference as the conditions change a lot and  you have to your home work or should I say leg work to make sure the holes, cuts and rips are still there.

This time of year can be great as the water temps are climbing nicely and the bait fish are all over the place.  The only problem is during the day a lot of the good spots are unfishable due to the swimmers and sun bathers.

That is OK by me as long as they leave the beach and let me fish at night I am a happy camper.
