Caught the big one earlier this morning. Well not a striper but a Blue! almost 26 inches. Biggest fish I've ever landed so far!  Took forever to reel it in, I think my gear was too light.  6 foot medium pole.  Took me about 15 minutes before I could even start reeling in any line.  Too afraid I was going to break the line so I just stood there for a while holding the pole.

Tide was coming in still. I believe hightide for the inlet was at 10:44. I started at 10.  Current was quick and the water had alot of junk in it.  I knew it was going to be a good time when I got there and I saw the blues jumping around every so often. Caught five within 45 minutes, all on the a17 with a green tail. They were all around 12-15 inches.  Then I caught the big one and I was tired and happy so I threw a couple more casts and left when I ran out of coffee!

If you respool and want to splurge a little...try one of the braids.  I like Sufix or Power Pro.  You can go a little heavier than you normally would with mono and still have plenty of line.  I ended up going from 14lb mono to 20lb PP on my Bay setup.  A little heavy for what I am doing, but never have that question of "if it will hold," especially in the Canal or Inlet with some of the big blues and bass.  I have lighter tackle if I want to use it too... ;D

Stopped over at -------- to pick up some crabs from Capt. Rich this afternoon. The shop is coming along nice  t^. Talk to Rich for a few minutes then I was on my way to the blackfish spot I always fish  at the  canal.  Fishing was slow. Had a couple of bites at the end of the flood tide. The best bite was on the slack tide and then died off again on the start of the ebb tide. There was also some action going on at the surface, either blues or bass crushing bait fish while is was there the whole time. Thanks again Capt. Rich for giving me your only pair of scissors  t^ and also for the spider crabs that you threw in the bucket. I'll be back over next week for another shot.

I have PPro Braid on my surf setup.  Might spool the canal setup with it.  Then the only question I will have is: Is my pole going to snap? haha.  This weather washed out my canal plans for today and tomorrow.  Maybe Sunday if it's not so bad I will get out there or the beggining of the week.  We shall see.

Yeah, that is the only thing you have to worry about...can your rod and reel handle it :P.
