Sharks Today 7/26
« on: July 26, 2008, 09:46:42 PM »
Was tired of the Fluke Sea Bass thing so Lance, Mike, and I went shark fishing today. One hour into the slick and we had our first shark caught fron the ASALT WEAPON.  t^ Lance fought the second one, good job Bro! Weather started to kick up, it was time to go. Mike, your up first next time. Funny thing, with all of the expensive gear on board,we caught both sahrks on out pitch bait pole equiped with an old Penn Senator 113 that I purchased at the flea market for $8.  5hrug <'((((><
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

nice report, but a location of the action would also be appreciated, along with particular bait used.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

According to the info contained with my HMS Permit, Brown sharks are on the prohibited list. We were about 11 miles out of the inlet, one was caught with half a bunker, the other took a mackeral. Both passed up our set baits, bluefish and bunker, and came right to the boat. Water temp was 71. Oh yeah, I put $5 worth of line and replaced the drag washers for about $4, so my $8 reel actually cost me $17 to be fishable.

As with everything in this fishing sport, there are two different sets of regulations. Federal and state. At this time, the browns are prohibited by Federal regulations. Meaning, you can not possess them in Federal waters.

They are not on the prohibited species in State regulations. Meaning, you can possess them in State waters.

That will change shortly, as the State is added them to the State regulations as being a prohibited species.

Also, you do not need a permit in state waters.

Federal waters = 3+ miles from shore.
State waters = up to 3 miles from shore.

Federal regulations allow you to possess one shark per boat per day.
State regulations allow you to possess two shark per boat per day.

Let's hope they get their acts together and make this less confusing.
