The Honda pilot is AWD on the road. However, it has a 4WD lock that keeps it in 4WD. It is called VTM-4 you can go up to 18 MPH in 4 WD.

I also forgot to mention that I saw 3 other Pilots on the beach with season passes and they also have never had a problem.

I don't even think IBSP will give an AWD vehicle a MSV Permit!!  4x4 is required.
