Nice catch.

Glad to see others have had a run in with togzilla.  If I had not seen with my own eyes with an eyewitness I would not believe it myself.

First, the directions and descriptions of the initial first post by Rod are still accurate and led me right to a nice spot on the canal. Fished at the end of Canal St.  There is parking for a few vehicles and you can back your vehicle up close to the fence without causing parking problems. Has garbage cans and good cover for "using the facilities" if necessary. Relaxing & easy fishing spot.

Thurs. 9/16/10-Checked into motel and the bait shop by the inlet had no crabs but he offered me some free surf clams.
Hit the canal around 4 PM and fishing the edges in about 3-5 feet of water my wife and I caught 5 Tog on the clams in about 1 hour. It was about 2 hrs after the tide mark for Sandy Hook. No keepers but 10 to 12 inch fat fish. Her first Tog.

Friday 9/17/10 With the storms couldn't find an AM boat going out.
Picked up some green crabs and again went around 2 hours after a tide mark and in about 2 hours we caught 4 nice shorts in the rocks along the wall. Guys next to us had a keeper and blowfish in the box.

Sunday 9/19/10
Wife is now hooked. Went back again but the boat traffic was unbelievable. Last Sunday of the summer?  1 hour and one 10” for the Mrs. on a clam. None on the crab.

Thank you for the detail report.  Yeah, it's fun togging, not much keeper but good action on some days.

Nice catches!  Clam is king there lately.  That boat traffic will really mess the fishing up...

I stopped by the Hooker this morning and got crabs from Rich  ;D

Got to the canal a little farther into the slack than planned.  Got my first tog (11in) on a crab.
Had a lot of hits, but either my timing is off or they weren't committing to the bite enough to get the hook.
The first fish was the last fish, but I caught the target species and learned  t^  And it was nice day to be outside and by water.

Chris and I did some canal toggin today. Found some fish but had to move around qite a bit.The water is still dirty from the blow (swell) and the bite is off from what it should be. We did get our 2 keepers to 15.5", 1 each  ::) had them pretty good to use up the bait. Both keepers caught on half a green crab with the outgoing tide running. ;D

I went by there yesterday morning. I was the only person NOT fishing for black fish out of 50 people haha.  I didn't see one person catch anything. The one guy I met there 2 years ago was there as well and he said it was the first day he hasn't caught at least one black fish.  I had a nice blue on the line for about a minute before he spit the hook. Right as my lure was about 10 feet away from me he came after it.  Almost time to start hitting the beach for stripers!

One keeper, 14 and 1/4 inches, bunch of shorts including a humongous stacked 13incher, could not believe the measuring stick.

Bite was picky and scratchy never suicidal except two small fish.  Green crab was king.  Half with the shell off was best.  None on a whole crab with the shell crushed. Clam did not produce.

Togzilla was absent but happy to get some fish.
