I was talking to Al G over at Grumpys last week and he said that he was getting the flat ones in his nets already.  I think he has been setting them over in the cove by the TYRYC.

He should be a good source of info for the river.

Dave, the Flush Mounts by Scotty have four holes for screws.  You have to drill five holes; four for the screws and the fifth for the support piece that ultimately holds the rod holder...

I like to create a backing plate by tracing the "foot print" of the mount on a piece of Luan plywood or thin plastic drill all the required holes and then put the whole thing together with Marine Goop, Stainlees Screws and LockTite nuts. When the Goop is sandwiched between the backing plate, the hull of the 'yak and the mount itself you'll never see any water come in through the holes.  Kinda like this:

The scottys ff mounts are ok but have some limitations. For the same money or less you can get a ram mount which is a much better choice. Remember if you are a paddler ( non - Hobie) you cant have anything sticking up on the gunnels that would interefer with paddling. That forces you to place it between your shins or ankles which in not the greatest location. It harder to reach there to change the settings and a big fish will beat it up when being landed between your legs.

Last year at this time..... I had my first keeper bass in the bay..... This year the ice is holding me back and water tempetures are just to cold...
I hope this weekend the tempetures warm up enough to melt the ice... So we can start the season off..... enough is enough at this point.

I hear ya brother. I'm slowly losing my mind looking at nautical charts and Google Earth. Next week it's supposed to warm up a bunch.

Sounds like a great idea. I've wanted to try kayaking my self but I'm pushing 60 now and I'm not as flexable as I used to be. so I decided on a big wide canoe and a good set of outriggers. Hopefully I can get a good deal at paddlefest in Somerset the end of the month. I will be looking forward to your post.
thanks Clem

The weather is going to be just fine for some kayak fishing.... so I'm going to head down to Oyster Creek and fish the warm water of the outflow.... I have some new soft plastic baits I would like to try out....

I just hope this is it for the cold weather and ice.... I will also be heading down to Florida at the end of the month.... the lower keys for some Tarpon fishing with the kayak... It should be a blast being I need to use another kayak for this trip.... I will be sure to keep everyone up to date while away....

We should all try and hook up this spring for a kayak outing.... t^

I ain't no expert on the Mullica, but I been at Lower Bank a couple times and marked alot of fish at the bridge. I did used to catch stripers at the GSP bridge from the shore way back in the day. Maybe I'll query "Mullica Bob" on another forum. Like I said before, I have heard good things about the end of Mannheim Ave. Google Earth it, and look at the NOAA charts - theres a bay or cove where the deep river channel kindof comes to an end, and theres also the Wading river that comes in near there.

How about the 2nd weekend of April?

I ain't no expert either, but I've heard lots of storys with no real details. Did some exploring recently and found launch areas at the lower bank and green bank bridges. Looked like they have street lights to create shadow lines. Any thoughts on a night trip?

I have also checked out Manaheim road. Thats one bumpy road. Also I would be careful of Car break ins. It just looks like that kinda place. Its very secluded.

Lets go fishing soon.

Tight Lines,
SB

I will be going down that way over the weekend.... So I will take my GPS along and check out some areas along the way that look good for us.... I agree that we should all be safe if we are unsure about the waters we are going to be fishing...... I would not mind doing a day trip to get the layout first and mark some areas on the kayak GPS so we know.......

The parkway bridge looks like a good spot.... off exit 48 has a road going up to the bridge... I will check that area to.....

I did hear of some small fish being caught on worms.... but I have not seen them so it may just be talk......

anyone have a problem with Sundays in April.... I'm working on Saturdays....

I have fished up by green creek and lower bank bridges with no luck. I find the fish but they are closed mouthed. As they get done breeding and realy start to feed I stay closer to home and dont get up that way.

I have also marked fish in the Mully without so much as a touch - Lower Bank, Hay Rd, and GSP bridge. But I'm determined to figure her out. Let's get out there boys! Dave, let us know how your recon trip went...

BTW, if we fish the GSP, be ready to lose some hardware, or don't use your expensive stuff, cause it's like a junkyard underneath there.

The Mullica is ALLLLLL new to me so, doin' a little fishin' with a bunch of nutz is great in my book!
I admit that I prefer fishin' on Saturday's only because I get to rest this old body on Sunday's! BUT am more than willing to make that sacrifice!!

I still don't have any hardware mounted but will not allow that to stand in my way!!!

oh yeah - dak - i had to chuckle when you said "...don't use your expensive stuff..." - I guess I'm lucky cause I don't have any expensive stuff!!

Show me the fishes!
