I was wrong..... The bunker are all over the ocean front and the ocean seems to have calmed down quite well.... I have just received a call the Monmouth beach is red hot as well as South of that.....

The bunker were also just off Bay Head with some nice bass blowing through the large pods of bunker.... Get out and fish while the fishing is good...

If you cant get out in the kayak.... then just fish the surf with bunker heads or chunks and if the bunker are in close then snag and drop....
large poppers are also a great way to get those big bass to hit.... Now is the time while these bunker pods are moving... the next 6 weeks are some of the best fishing for bass in the area....
be safe  t^

Thanks for the report Dave.  I am trying to get out in the morning for a while off the beach at IBSP.  Bunker is the name of the game so an early stop at Grumpys is in order.  I guess the weather will be the key on this one.

Sorry..... I have not been keeping up with my reports as I should..... With the amount of bait (Bunker) on the beach the last couple weeks.....I have been out every chance I can get.

I have been fishing from Bay Head South to Island Beach State Park.....With some nice bass from the high 20's to low 40's.....

Most of the fish are on poppers..... the Gibbs 3oz in white/yellow pencil seems to be the best for me.... some days all they want is live bait...so your snagging bunker.....

I have been using the kayak very early in the morning before all the nutty boaters show up.... it looks like a off shore power boat race at 6:00 am..... they all come out of the inlet and shot South to Lavallette in big numbers its crazy.... I would sure love to fish more but its just to dangerous some days..... the weekend is just out of the question......

Well thats what I have been up to...... what about the rest of you........... Have fun  t^

I feel for you on the nutty boaters comment. Too many time I have had guys cut me right off on the bunker schools. That is why you will find me off by myself every chance I get. I actually sat watching the other boats a few days ago to see what they were doing. I would see one boat with guys either snagging for bunker or tossing bunker. Just the act of them snagging or tossing caused a flotilla of boats to emerge on them. It seemed their mind set was...they are snagging/tossing, so something must be going on.   ::)

Now that I got that off my chest.  ;D...

Nice report and catches. The bass seemed to disappear for a few days and then a new batch came in. This should last at least till the end of the month.

Thanks for the report Dave.  I went out last Sunday for a while (A21) to get the fish finder dialed in and I christened myself with a flip over.  I was told it looked graceful but for me it felt like all a$$ and elbows.  got back in with no trouble so that was good.  Surprisingly I did not loose a thing.  I was traveling light and everything was tethered.  Good test... ;D

I am trying to get out tomorrow late afternoon to early evening I'll see what the war dept.  has to say.

Happy Catching

Vent away Dave...

I have been so busy this season that I have not been able to get out.  I make plans and either someone calls or pops over or the war dept wants something done, not a good spring for me.

Going to Oahu in early June and I have been on a site out there getting ideas as we will be staying right on the beach on the windward side of the island.  I already told the wife I am buying a small outfit to use for fishing off the beach as I will be fishing there.  There is a kayak rental only a few miles away I just might rent for a couple of days if I can get away with it.

It is funny just reading the site out there they have the same problems with the idiots being so inconsiderate.  I guess it is a world wide epidemic.

Happy Catching

It sure is a pandemic of the idiots disease!  Gotta love the Jersey Shore in the summer ::).  Nothing like being mugged for fish?!?!  I am like you Capt Joe...keep me away from the crowd and in a nice quiet place.  Pretty much why I took up freshwater fishing again.  I can sneak off to a secluded area and be by myself.

Great catches, Dave.

When I was out Sunday we were fishing with three other boats in the area. My boat and another boat were on a pod of bunker. Me on one side, the other boat on the other. A 'family' boat came roaring up toward us. Just before he got to us he slowed down, made a hard port turn and actually WENT AROUND US at a slow speed!!! When he got even with me I yelled out to him that I appreciated his movement to the outside and slowing down. I told him that he was the first one that I saw do such a thing as most would have drove right thru the pod. I think it took him off guard that he was being thanked as he did not know what to say.  TT^

One of the very few that knew and cared what he was doing. My hat's off to him.  chrz

I hear you Dave.  It seems like ever since I bought the kayak the weekends have been terrible.  I was hoping to go out on Fathers Day but they are calling for 15 to 20 with 35+ gusts.  Man that stinks.  I can't even go to the beach as they will be shoulder to shoulder for the full 10 miles of IBSP.  Not good.  Now would be a good time to check out those actively fishing and those that are not, and blast them with citations.

Sorry about the delay everyone.....I did take my vacation the week of June 20th for 12 days of fishing.....the low presure system which sat of the coast for a week caused some very large swells of the beach and with large swells come big waves on the beach......The bunker did not seem to stay very long and the bass fishing just dint come about like in past years.....

I did have the chance to get out a couple times and the paddel out through those big waves was crazy on my part.... the return trip was even worse.....being the waves were way to large to be out in the kayak.......

I am just going to start fluke fishing now and hope that fishing is better..... Hope everyone has a safe and happy July 4th.......

I was wondering where you were...I have not been out in about a week sue to getting ready for vacation and the weather.

I am looking to rent a kayak out in Hawaii sometime next week and have some fun out there.  We will be right on the beach on the windward side of the island of Oahu so I am looking to do a lot of surf fishing in the mornings and the evenings.

I will post pictures once I get set up out there.  This should be cool.  I have no idea what I will be catching but I have been told that the Ulua are starting to come in so I have been tying up some Oama teasers to try out there as well.

Happy Catching
