I have a new rod and need a reel, what are your thoughts?
« on: April 22, 2013, 02:13:48 PM »
I was lucky enough to win the Star Plasma Offshore rod and now I need a reel.
What do think I should get?

And....

Thank you to Ray Goecke of Star Rods for donating this rod for the NJSWFM banquet.

Whatever reel you pick you should turn the outfit over to me so it can have a proper test run.  ;D

Rick:

IF you are only going to use it now and then and money is a concern, you may want to look at some of the Okumas. I have two (forget the # offhand) on 50# rods and I like them. Again, they're not Penn Internationals or Tiagras but they get the job done and were reasonably priced.

Yea Fred,
I saw them and own a few for my Salmon trolling rods and have no problems with them at all.
The main question is how much I am going to use it. I don't think I will use it much at all.

That's why I went with them and they were a steal on Ebay or some other site.

Yea but I might use it once a year if I'm lucky. That's the only thing that bothers me.  :headscra:
